La Jolla California , which means “The Jewel,” is a beautiful seaside community that has been a popular beach resort since the late 1800s. Located within the city limits of San Diego, La Jolla has everything that California is famous for; dazzling ocean scenery, white sand beaches, tide pools and sandy coves tucked between rocky cliffs, sunshine and year round comfortable temperatures that lure thousands of visitors each year. La Jolla combines southern California fun with the elegance of a southern European resort. As you descend the hills into the town, one is reminded of Greece or Italy; the white sand beach, the ocean, white stucco buildings with red tile roofs and an old mission with a bell tower all blend with the incredible diversity of flowers, trees and plants. The scenery in La Jolla is nothing short of spectacular. In addition, championship golf courses overlook the Pacific Ocean; family owned businesses; art galleries, boutiques, and antique shops, unique clothing and jewelry stores line the city streets. You can find everything from antique Oriental rugs and to bath and beauty products in La Jolla. Many fine artists have chosen to make La Jolla their home, no doubt inspired by the beauty of the area. There are literally dozens of galleries and artist’s studios located in La Jolla, featuring everything from contemporary art and animation art, to pottery, ceramics and exquisite handmade jewelry. There are several beaches at La Jolla, including a children’s beach that is great for little snorkelers and watching the seals and sea lions. La Jolla Cove is a swimming and diving paradise. Just minutes away you’ll find more world class resorts, entertainment, dining, outdoor recreation and theme parks. Restaurants in La Jolla are some of the best in the San Diego area – you find them perched on hillsides with great views, tucked along the city streets or beachside. After dinner, you can walk the beach and watch sea lions frolicking in the waves, or stroll at dusk and be amazed by the sunset. It's all a part of what makes La Jolla one of California's most desirable vacation destinations.

La Jolla is home to several museums and entertainment venues, as well, such as The Comedy Store, which has nightly entertainment with open mic on Sundays. The Cove Theater has been a high-quality art house since 1948 and features independent and foreign language films. La Jolla is also home to the Birch Aquarium at Scripps, which is a great family outing complete with a shark tank and tide pool demonstrations. In addition, La Jolla is the site of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the University of California, San Diego and many biotech and software companies. La Jolla is just a twenty-minute drive from downtown San Diego on Interstate-5 North. It’s an easy day trip, but keep in mind that an average of 7,000 people visit La Jolla every day and parking is sometimes difficult. Many of the streets nearest the ocean have a one-hour limit. If you’re spending the night, advance reservations are highly recommended.
